Wanting to Adopt a child, Do you own a gun?

Everyone knows that when adopting a child that there is a mountain of paperwork that has to be done along with endless screening. Papers upon papers and questionnaires galore. One couple Ron And Fran Fahs of , while going through the obtrusive process have discovered a question that they feel goes a little to far.

Do you own a gun?

According to Central Florida channel 13, the couple "are not necessarily gun supporters", despite that the couple still feels the question goes to far.

"Let's just stay with responsible parenting and issues that are involved in that, and not get down to specifics like, 'do you have sharp nails in the house', or, you know, "are your knives all put up above children's reach," the Fahs said.

The NRA has been alerted to this and Marion Hammer, who heads the Florida chapter of the NRA has made a comment. "This is almost a profiling of adoptive parents," Hammer said. "They don't want to be profiled, they don't want to be treated differently because they choose to exercise a constitutional right."

The NRA is now pushing for a law that will ban this particular question. Hopefully the law passes. Even the Fahs' think that the law should pass stating "Plenty of people have guns, are responsible about how they store them, and those type of things, so i wouldn't want it to be a take-or-break type of issue,"

According to Channel 13 one agency has temporarily stopped asking the "do you own a gun?" question while they await legal clarification.

Like said hopefully the law passes and this question is stricken from the process. There is no reason that a good law abiding citizen, who wants to adopt a child should be denied because they own guns. This goes right up there with racial profiling in our book.
